Identify Consumer Requirements
An Account Manager analyzes the consumer requirements and expectations from a particular product
or brand. This helps him to brief the brand manager and production staff to develop the product and brand according to consumer requirements so as to capture maximum market share.
Plan Budget
The Account Manager helps the department to calculate and fix a budget for branding and marketing activities for a given period, usually during a financial year. He has to segregate the spending's for various mediums and present the report to the finance department to get approvals.
Assist in Strategizing
The Account manager helps the brand manager and other team members to make startegy for marketing and promotional activities for a specific brand. He communicates with the advertising agency to finalize the promotional strategy for a specific product or a range of products to be launched under a single brand.
Monitor Market Trends and Seek Consumer Feedback
The Account Manager helps the department by monitoring the market trends before and after launch of products. This is important to assess the impact of branding and promotion activities.
Assist in Other Operations
Apart from the tasks mentioned above, an Account Manager can be asked to assist in other functions
as well. He may represent the organization during press conferences or any other event where external agencies participate. Alternately, he can be asked to communicate with the sales staff, franchisee owners, and retailers about the brand specifications.
Above and beyond the above mentioned responsibilities, the role will require:
Meeting and liaising with clients to discuss and identify their advertising requirements;
- Working with agency colleagues to devise an advertising campaign that meets the client's brief and budget;
- Presenting alongside agency colleagues (particularly the account manager), the campaign ideas and budget to theclient;
- Brief media, creative and research staff and assisting with
the formulation of marketing strategies;
- liaising with, and acting as the link between, the client and the advertising agency by maintaining regular contact with both,
- Ensuring that communication flows effectively;
- Negotiating with clients and agency staff about the details of campaigns;
- Presenting creative work to clients for approval or modification;
- Handling budgets, managing campaign costs and invoicing clients;
- Writing client reports;
- Monitoring the effectiveness of campaigns;
- Making 'pitches', along with other agency staff, to try to win new business for the agency.
An Account manager should be able to:

Identify and explain the market trends and consumer requirements clearly to the brand manager
and other staff
Think analytically from different perspectives to forecast the consequences and have branding plans accordingly
