Information Experience Technical Writer
Summary
The IX technical writer will work with the IX leadership, senior writers, and engineering stakeholders to define and write content that enable the IX team to succeed on the core mission of delivering product documentation and help systems that help customers achieve their goals. The technical writer must work under the supervision and guidance of the senior writers to gather requirements from stakeholders, create technical content and training material, and proactively work with teams to ensure program success.
The technical writer should be results-oriented, possess good communication skills, and enjoy working as part of a distributed, global team in a fast-paced environment. To be successful, the technical writer must have a fair understanding of the content production process and project planning.
The technical writer for the IX team will be responsible for presenting information clearly and effectively in written and verbal form.
Responsibilities
Under close supervision, creates and revises existing technical content such as installation and configuration guides, administration guides, technical notes, release notes, and knowledge base articles.
Works with editors, incorporating editorial feedback to ensure that VMware style and standards are appropriately observed in technical content and media.
Verifies technical content by testing the product. With assistance from lead writer or manager, obtains timely technical reviews of new or updated content.
Uses IX toolchain and source control tools to author and publish content under supervision of senior personnel. Understands technical content authoring workflows
Learns to Incorporate customer feedback and enhancement requests into technical content
Has a basic understanding of common Web analytics metrics, combined with regular use of the analytics dashboard and monitoring of trends over time
Learns to leverage a variety of information sources including: PRDs, functional specifications, user stories, white papers, bug comments, doc feedback, knowledge transfer, legacy technical content, SME interviews.
Follows and implements content plans that include detailed outlines. Creates and follows schedules
Required Skills and Experience

Familiarity with technical writing teams and processes
Ability to understand and synthesize technical information
Good communication and organization skills
Work cooperatively with other members of the team
