Lead Materials, Planning and Logistics for the Business Unit and its plants to provide required purchase, issuance of material for day to day production and dispatch of finished goods to customers; Act as a bridge between corporate materials and plant material teams; Contribute to BU and plant level planning in terms of purchase, PPC, stores, etc. for smooth production; Drive adherence to inventory control and share of business norms and parameters
1. Ensure plant material supply
- Guide and provide support to plant material team for critical parts to ensure daily requirements are adequately met; Resolve issues with suppliers and coordinate with suppliers to get the required material at right time and right quantity; Facilitate resolution of issues causing disputes between plant and supplier owing to various reasons such as rejections, quality, resource, capacity issues, customer demand fluctuation, etc.; Work with the supplier to address issues
- For quality related issues with the supplier, analyze emerging quality issues from representative sample, deep dive to isolate issues and work plant quality etc. for alignment / issue resolution
- For capacity issues at supplier end, involve corporate material, hold joint meeting with supplier and corporate material to address the capacity and investment related issues
2. Supplier upgradation and material analysis
- At the BU level, consider Electrical BU specific suppliers for supplier upgradation to improve their overall performance, right quantity and quality (70% procurement through 30+ vendors)
- Set and review the PPM targets for the individual suppliers; Oversee review of PPM reports to provide inputs to the team for enhancing PPM, guide root cause analysis of defects with supplier team and provide guidance
- Monitor the supplier rating system, QCD parameters, and performance improvement of L3 and L4 category vendors; Set targets for the team to bring to upgrade L3/ L4 to L1/ L2 category suppliers
- Participate in monthly quality and delivery meetings at the respective plants, review with plant quality and material teams to identify and resolve review issues, and initiate action
3. Inventory control
- Define EBU and individual plant wise inventory targets in number of days (jointly with plant head and plant material head) for various types of inventories, such as overall inventory, packing inventory, child part inventory, semi-finished good inventory, finished good inventory, etc.
- Consider and analyze multiple parameters such as electronic part lead time variations, customer location, lead time, supplier location, imported part content, product type, product miss to determine inventory targets
- Weekly review the inventory status with the plants to monitor inventory as per target; Address the concerns emerging/ highlighted by the plants in cases of deviations
- Consolidate and present the status of inventory control to the top management on a monthly basis to minimize impact on capital and cash, and ensure optimum inventory levels are maintained
4. Maintenance of share of Business
- Monitor deviations and discuss with respective plants to resolve concerns on deviations on share of business parameters to mitigate associated risk; Undertake root cause analysis of supplier issues such as quality, capacity, delivery issues, etc. and provide inputs for resolution
- Interact with supplier to understand the issues, attend monthly quality and delivery meetings to discuss issues and explore the support needed by the supplier
- Analyze and oversee preparation of various analysis such as plant wise inventory reports, major parts in inventory, etc.; Coordinate with plants to ensure action on inventory control and minimize inventory; Check SOB on monthly basis and assess cost impact; Interact with corporate material to meet SOB parameters
5. Process/ System SOP Definition
- Define SOP and guidelines from system and process point of view, e.g. inventory to be maintained at target level, therefore define the inventory level at min/ max level, purchase, planning, etc.
- Analyze the various aspects of material, inventory, supplier, plant requirements, cost impact, etc. to support the plant teams to define the SOP and guidelines
6. Team development
- Participate in recruitment process to identify the right talent across positions within the function
- Establish individual performance expectations and regularly review individual performance of the team
