JOB DESCRIPTION OF ENGINEER, DOCUMENTATION

Main tasks

This is the job description of Documentation team s Project Engineer later in this description Documentation Engineer (DE). DE participates in projects that are managed by a nominated Project Manager. DE has a key role in compiling and issuing technical supplier documentation on-time and according to project specification. Demand for documentation is based on customer s requirements agreed in purchase order. Input and content for documentation comes from multiple internal and external (non-Neles) sources. Sources of inputs are specification, dimensional drawing, instrumentation and product selection teams. Different project stages, which DE must follow, trigger the need for certain document types. In case of revision or technical clarification engineer is responsible for reviewing technical details together with the customer, sales office, project manager and other interest groups in project unit lean organization. The output of engineer is delivery document. Documents are issued in co-operation with document assistants team.

DE reports in matrix based on projects scope to Documentation Manager and Project Manager.

Continuous development of own work and documentation methods is emphasized in lean organization. DE is expected to actively communicate about any project related problems, challenges and best practices. DE is expected to participate in standardizing work tasks whenever possible.

Required skills and knowledge

Position requires Diploma or B.E. / B.Tech. degree in Engineering or relevant discipline and preferably 3-5years' experience in an engineering position. It is an advantage to have product knowledge of field devices and/or experience in documentation management systems.

DE is presumed to be systematic, co-operative and customer oriented person. He/she must be able to manage multiple projects without losing focus on details and agreed schedules. Good communication skills and good command of written and spoken English is a must. Other languages especially Russian and Chinese are an advantage.

The effects of decisions and agreements

DE s decisions have effect on on-time deliveries and to profit margin of each project.

Interaction

DE is in interaction with multiple interest groups: customers, project managers, project teams, sales, marketing and RTD. Interaction between sales, project managers and other project teams have high importance as it takes place daily.

Responsibilities and authorities

DE is responsible for clarifying technical documentation related details together with project manager, customer and other project unit teams e.g. product selection team. DE is responsible of reviewing and commenting content and schedule of incoming project documentation before kick-off meeting. Furthermore he/she is responsible of issuing agreed documentation for customer after technical review. During project life span follow-up and communication of documentation schedule and maturity is responsibility of DE.

Responsibilities

  • Participate and contribute in project start up meetings.
  • Generate WBS and documentation list with schedule.
  • Issue project delivery documentation based on agreed schedule.
  • Communication and problem solving in case of document delivery problems.
  • Reporting to agreed stakeholders.
  • Problem solving with interest groups.
  • Ensure project status in PDM is up to date.

  • Organize documentation with Document Assistants and Engineers.
