Job Summary
Key Responsibilities: Mainframe Automation Design & Implementation: Research, analyze, document, and design effective automation solutions to consolidate and automate jobs, workflows, and tasks within IBM Z/OS. Implement automated recovery processes to support high availability initiatives and minimize downtime for critical systems. Collaborate with clients to design and implement innovative solutions for streamlining operations and reducing manual intervention. Testing, Change Management, and Software Migration: Oversee testing, change management, and problem resolution processes, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruptions. Lead or assist in software migration, including installations, backouts, and re-migration processes. Handle patching, upgrades, and installation of IBM Z/OS automation products and new features, ensuring compatibility and stability across the system. Automation Tools & Scripting: Utilize and configure IBM Z/OS automation tools such as Tivoli Netview, Systems Automation for Z/OS, and WAC (IBM Worldwide Automation Configurator). Code and troubleshoot in REXX, COBOL, RPG, JCL, and PROCS to enhance automation processes. Develop automation solutions for large-scale mainframe-based enterprises and review change requests to ensure they meet operational and business requirements. Collaboration & Project Leadership: Lead or participate in client collaboration projects, ensuring seamless integration of automation solutions. Provide training and peer reviews to graduates or less-experienced team members, sharing knowledge and best practices. Manage project timelines, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of automation initiatives. Impact Analysis & Proactive Improvements: Assess the impacts of proposed or actual changes in job codes or job schedulers, evaluating potential risks and performance implications. Provide recommendations for automation enhancements and process improvements. Required Technical and Professional Expertise: Mainframe Automation Tools: Experience with IBM Z/OS Automation products, Tivoli Netview, Systems Automation for Z/OS, and WAC. Proficient in REXX, COBOL, RPG, JCL, and PROCS scripting for automation tasks. Automation & Integration Expertise: Proven experience in designing and implementing automated workflows and recovery processes for high-availability systems. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve automation-related issues, ensuring the seamless operation of mainframe environments. Change Management & Software Maintenance: Strong background in software migration, patching, and upgrades for Z/OS automation tools. Familiarity with testing, change management practices, and incident resolution in a mainframe environment. Client Interaction & Collaboration: Ability to work directly with clients to understand their needs and deliver tailored automation solutions. Experience in client collaboration projects and providing technical leadership within teams. Project Leadership & Mentoring: Ability to lead automation projects, manage timelines, and ensure successful execution. Experience in peer reviews, training, and mentoring junior team members. Desirable Qualifications: Experience with New Features & Unsupported Technologies: Exposure to the latest versions of IBM Z/OS and new, unsupported features for improved automation. Expertise in High-Scale Automation: Experience with large-scale automation for enterprise systems running on mainframes, particularly in complex environments. Comprehensive IT Knowledge: Broad understanding of IT operations, from infrastructure to application-level integration, with a strong focus on mainframe systems.
