Your Role at Baxter

As the Principal Mechanical Engineer, your work will directly impact device engineering development and sustainment activities for the PSS & GSS portfolio in our Bangalore R&D center. You will play a pivotal role in leading design and verification activities, providing guidance to fellow engineers, and solving complex technical challenges.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leadership & Guidance: Lead and mentor a team of Mechanical Engineers, aligning their efforts with the organization's vision and strategic objectives.
  • Innovative Problem-Solving: Identify technical challenges and provide innovative solutions, while sharing your expertise and knowledge with the team.
  • Cost Optimization: Drive value engineering initiatives to identify cost-saving opportunities within the PSS product portfolio. Manage these projects from feasibility through implementation.
  • Design Ownership: Ensure designs meet customer and technical requirements through validation and verification, while collaborating with finance to manage project budgets.
  • Market Insight: Integrate knowledge of market trends, business, and industry dynamics into technical solutions that adapt to evolving technologies and clinical needs.
  • Creative Solutions: Generate alternative solutions and approach technical problems with a creative mindset, taking reasonable risks when necessary.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Produce high-quality technical documentation to capture design details and communicate solutions clearly to stakeholders.
  • Resource Management: Collaborate with program management to establish effective resource management processes for efficient planning and execution.
  • Proactive Communication: Keep the team informed about developments or challenges that may affect progress or meeting project commitments.
  • CAD & FEA Expertise: Use CAD software and FEA tools to create and validate mechanical designs.
  • Continuous Improvement: Regularly challenge project teams and existing work processes, identifying creative ways to achieve performance goals and drive success.

What You'll Bring

  • Education & Experience:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 12+ years of experience, or
    • Master s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 9+ years of experience.
  • Technical Expertise:

    • Proven ability to generate alternative solutions to technical problems, with an emphasis on cost-effective design improvements.
    • Strong understanding of FDA, ISO, and IEC design control procedures, regulations, and standards.
    • Skilled in performing theoretical calculations for mechanical concepts and designs.
    • Experience in the medical device industry is preferred.
  • Leadership & Collaboration:

    • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative team player.
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills with the ability to adapt to change.
    • Proven track record in project management is a plus.
  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in CAD design and FEA tools.
    • Ability to work effectively under minimal supervision while ensuring deadlines are met.
