Job Summary

This is an opportunity to work in the Office of the CTO at VMware, working with an innovations team that is currently developing cloud data management technologies.The ideal candidate must have recent exposure to Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices and familiar with Kubernetes and public cloud deployment automation, including implementation of observability solutions for metrics, logs, and application trace collection. The candidate is assumed to have experience with infrastructure and software deployment automation. In addition, familiarity with data management platforms such as Apache Kafka, Spark, Solr, Elasticsearch or equivalent data management software stacks is highly desirable. The candidate is assumed to have experience with (large) production deployments of distributed data management solutions and is familiar with typical deployment challenges.

Detailed Job Function

  • Work with lead engineers to understand deployment designs and follow through on implementation of deployment architecture and automation in the areas of Kubernetes, vSphere, public cloud, and data platform software stacks.
  • Be comfortable with multiple programming and scripting languages, and configuration tools, including Java, scripting, and SaltStack.
  • Be comfortable with Kubernetes configuration tools such Helm Charts.
  • Be comfortable with agile development and state-of-the-art CI/CD processes.
  • Be versatile and comfortable working with different data software stacks.

Skillsets

  • 4+ years experience with Kubernetes and cloud production deployments.
  • Deployment experience with Red Hat Openshift is highly desired.
  • 4+ years SRE experience managing enterprise cloud production deployments.
  • Understanding software lifecycle and associated tools such as Git, Jira, Confluence, etc.
  • Knowledge about current trends in software architecture, big data, container technology, hybrid cloud, infrastructure and software deployment automation.
  • General understanding of distributed systems architectures, challenges and design implications
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ideal candidate should have bachelor s degree in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience, minimum of 5 years experience in IT and product engineering.
