Overseas Counsellor Study Abroad

Key Responsibilities

1. Understanding Student Profiles and Desired Courses

Initial Consultation & Interest and Strength Assessment:

    • Schedule a meeting to discuss the student's academic background, interests, and career goals.
    • Evaluate their academic records, test scores (like SAT, GRE, TOEFL, IELTS), and extracurricular activities.
    • Use assessments or questionnaires to understand their interests and strengths.
    • Discuss various fields of study and their future prospects.

2. Assisting with University/College and Program Selection

Research, Shortlisting & Application requirements:

    • Research universities and colleges that offer the desired courses.
    • Consider factors such as university ranking, location, tuition fees, faculty, and campus facilities.
    • Shortlist institutions that match the student's profile and preferences.
    • Review the admission requirements for each shortlisted institution.
    • Keep track of application deadlines and other critical dates.

3. Profile Building (SOP/LOR/Resume)

Statement of Purpose (SOP):

    • Guide students in drafting a compelling SOP.
    • Ensure it highlights their academic achievements, career goals, and why they chose a particular course and institution.

Letters of Recommendation (LOR):

    • Advise on selecting appropriate recommenders (teachers, mentors, employers).
    • Provide templates or guidelines to recommenders to help them write effective LORs.

Resume:

    • Help students create a professional resume.
    • Include academic qualifications, work experience, internships, projects, skills, and extracurricular activities.

4. Budgeting, Expenses, and Financial Planning

Cost Estimation:

    • Provide a detailed estimate of tuition fees, accommodation, living expenses, and other costs.
    • Discuss different types of accommodation options and their costs.

Financial Aid and Scholarships:

    • Advise on available scholarships, grants, and financial aid.
    • Assist in preparing scholarship applications.

Budget Planning:

    • Help students create a budget plan for their entire study period abroad.
    • Discuss part-time work opportunities and their impact on studies and finances.

5. Additional Tips:

Stay Updated:

    • Keep abreast of the latest trends in overseas education, visa regulations, and new programs.
    • Attend workshops, webinars, and training sessions.

Networking:

    • Build a network with alumni, current students, and representatives from various institutions.
    • Use these connections to provide students with first-hand information and insights.

Qualifications

Minimum 1+ years of relevant experience in Study Abroad counselling.

Counselling students for overseas education in countries like UK, Australia, USA, Canada, France Ireland & Germany.

Good in MS Office, CRM, Analytics/Numbers, and metrics.
