Job Summary
Hey you! Yes you in the back the designer who likes making cool stuff and getting paid for it. We think we have a pretty cool place for you to work. Here's some stuff about it:
Us
We're called Tarka Labs. There's a page on our website that describes why we're called that. It's very fancy~
Our company mainly consists of developers with a few designers sprinkled in, but we're looking for more!
We're not one of those companies that just cranks out a bunch of projects quickly. When we work on something, we really dig into it and do it right. No putting lipstick on pigs around here.
We believe that making good work requires happy workers, so the way we work is very important. We only hire good people, so we're comfortable giving them lots of autonomy. We don't track your time off or look over your shoulder to make sure you're on task. As long as you're producing good work and the client is happy, we're happy. Oh and I guess this is a good place to mention that we're fully remote.
There's a lot more we could go into, but you should just talk to us and we'll tell you all about it.
The job
Like we said, the design team is small right now just a few of us, and you won't be reporting to any big boss. We work closely and make decisions together as a team. If someone doesn't like something we call it out and work on solutions until we're satisfied.
We mostly work on digital products. Things like web apps, websites, mobile apps, etc. but we don't think of ourselves as just "Product designers" or "UI/UX designers". Our job is to apply good design to things that need it. That could be a website one day, and a tote bag or presentation the next. (Don't worry, we won't just stick you on PPTs. Remember what we said about happy workers?)
Here are some of the tools we use to do our job:
Figma
Adobe Creative Cloud
All the Google stuff
Slack
Framer (we can't wait for this to get better)
We don't really care about what tools you know though. If you have a good design mindset, you can learn the tools.
What it boils down to is everybody pitching in and doing their part to make great work. If we think you're a good fit for our team, the rest will follow.
Some more things
Client projects are our bread and butter just like any other company, but we also appreciate and encourage side projects. If you're excited to learn something new or work on a product idea, we think that's awesome! If you're excited about it, chances are good you'll have some help too if you want it.
Speaking of side projects, we also think it's healthy to engage and share with the communities around us. To that end, we try to write blog posts, make videos, or podcast about things that we find interesting or useful. If we're being honest though...we could be better about this. We're trying, okay?
