Job Title: Front-End WordPress Engineer
Location: Remote
About the Role
rtCamp is looking for a talented Front-End WordPress Engineer with strong experience in WordPress theme development and modern JavaScript frameworks. While core PHP knowledge is essential to work with traditional WordPress themes, this role also requires hands-on experience with React to support custom Gutenberg block development.
This is a full-time, remote role open to candidates worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop responsive WordPress themes from design files created in Figma, Photoshop, or similar tools.
- Adapt third-party designs for WordPress, ensuring a balance between design accuracy and long-term maintainability.
- Write and manage theme-related PHP code to ensure seamless integration with WordPress templating system.
- Contribute to decoupled WordPress projects, using WordPress REST API/GraphQL as the backend and React/Next.js for the frontend with team support provided.
- Build custom Gutenberg blocks with clean, efficient code and a focus on exceptional user experience.
Must-Have Skills
- Strong CSS expertise, including deep understanding of CSS internals and experience with preprocessors like SASS.
- Proficiency in core JavaScript (ES6/ESNext), with optional jQuery experience for simpler themes.
- Basic proficiency in PHP, particularly related to WordPress theme development.
- Solid experience with React for developing custom Gutenberg blocks.
- Deep understanding of WordPress architecture, including template hierarchy, the loop, Customizer API, and Settings API.
- Experience with setting up and managing modern JavaScript build tools such as Webpack, Babel, NPM, and others.
Nice-to-Have Skills
While these are optional, highlighting any of the following in your application will strengthen your profile and accelerate the hiring process:
- Experience with Full Site Editing (FSE) and Block-Based theme development.
- Familiarity with web accessibility best practices.
- Advanced knowledge of React beyond Gutenberg development.
- Exposure to other front-end frameworks/libraries apart from React.
