Cloud System Administrator JD

I. Primary Purpose of Position
• The primary responsibilities of the position are install, operate and maintain the cloud infrastructure of the Pentagon.

II. Essential Duties
• Install and configure hardware and software for cloud operations
• Document configuration and installation procedures
• Create and delete user and project accounts as appropriate
• Be responsible for the availability, security, access, backup and performance of the cloud
• Create tools for reporting system usage
• Perform system monitoring and diagnose and correct system problems
• Provide assistance to end users

III. Supervisory Responsibilities
• Supervise and manage junior team members.

IV. Reporting Relationship
• Reports to Head Cloud Operations

V. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
• In-depth knowledge and experience with Linux system administration
• Experience configuring and using hypervisors, such as KVM, Xen or ESX
• Ability to deploy Cloud systems such as Simplivity, Nutanix, OpenStack or Eucalyptus
• Knowledge of networking for virtual machines, particularly with regard to security and performance
• Knowledge of remote desktop software solutions, such as VNC, NoVNC and Spice
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work closely with other professionals in a team environment
• Ability to work a variable work schedule and work outside normally scheduled work hours including day, night, weekend and/or holiday hours, as directed

Preferred:
• Experience installing, configuring and operating the Virtual Cloud Infrastructure through the Orchestration layer
• Experience with High Performance Computing (HPC) Systems
• Experience with high performance storage systems
• Experience with High Availability (HA) computer systems
• Experience with networking, particularly gigabit Ethernet, 10 gigabit Ethernet and Infiniband
• Experience conducting research
• Experience interacting with researchers from different disciplines

VI. Qualifications Required::
• 1. BE - Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
• 2. Linux Certified SysAdmin is must
• Minimum 10 years experience required in:
  • Linux system administration
  • Hardware/software/firmware/driver testing, debugging and deployment
  • Systems integration
