Job description: Design the architecture for the Visual Studio Team System Test (VSTST) suite of products and technically drive its implementation in the suites component tools. Visual Studio Team System Test will provide a suite of integrated enterprise-class lifecycle tools for application testing, test process management, and test lab management that span a wide range of testing techniques and application technologies. This is a rare opportunity to join a new team to participate in building a new generation of products and a new business opportunity for Visual Studio and Microsoft.We are looking for an exceptionally strong architect, experienced and passionate about designing and building high quality tools for enterprise software development. You will be working with program managers, engineers, and other architects to build base technology and infrastructure solutions that will be the foundation of VSTST. You will be responsible for designing elements of our common platforms to drive our next generation test tools. You will identify new customer-driven product opportunities and technologies and work closely with customers and partners to help prioritize those opportunities. Subsequently, you will prove their feasibility by prototyping solutions and driving incubation projects. You will be responsible for convincing key stakeholders and decision-makers that these opportunities are worth pursuing, and that your solutions are the right ones. You will work closely with development teams to drive the implementation of these products, and you will work closely with architects and developers in other teams (Team System, Developer Division, other Microsoft teams) to ensure the proper integration with other products.

Minimum Requirements

In addition to strong technical skills and computer science background, this position will require substantial knowledge of the needs of the various testing related customer roles and the products and technologies they use. Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work across time zones are required in order to collaborate with teams across multiple divisions and multiple locations (Redmond, North Carolina, India). In order to succeed in this role, you must have a passion and track record of building innovative and easy to use products that solve real-world customer problems and you must have strong and demonstrated leadership skills to convince others to follow your lead. Qualifications include a proven track record of designing and delivering commercially successful application lifecycle tool and deep technical problem solving skills. Familiarity with VS.NET, the CLR, .NET Frameworks, test and test management tools, performance, databases, and distributed scalable systems are highly desirable. Knowledge of customer needs and technology solutions around application testing in different domains is also highly desirable. A BS/BS degree in Computer Science is required, masters or PhD level studies recommended.
