Job Summary

Job description

  • The successful candidates will join a multidisciplinary research program at o2h, Ahmedabad working on fragment-based/small molecule screening using state-of-the-art technology platforms utilizing cell-free and cell-based assay development, primary screening, orthogonal assay validation, and functional characterization of lead molecules.
  • Candidates will develop and lead small molecule drug discovery projects primarily collaborative.
  • Alongside ADME assays that run in parallel with o2h chemistry services, candidates will enable the development of target biology working with multiple drug targets and in providing an integrated suite of high-quality biophysical, biochemical, and cellular-assay platforms for testing of new therapeutic concepts.
  • Reporting to head of biology, lead a group of in vitro assay biologists, coaching group members to improve skills and productivity
  • Independently design, conduct, optimize and proactively troubleshoot screening assays
  • Develop, optimize and validate biophysical, biochemical, and cell-based assay platforms for the hit identification, lead optimization, and functional characterization of small molecules
  • Work on the bench implementing state-of-the-art technologies for the different assay platforms- managing motivating and training junior members within the group
  • Ensure robust and high-quality assays with efficient use of automation and instrumentation
  • Data processing, interpretation, and presentation to cross-functional team members
  • Proposing, planning, quoting, tracking reagent needs, usage, and executing timelines for each study
  • Work closely with other biology groups involved in cellular and molecular biology, protein biology/chemistry, and ADME, offering integrated drug discovery support alongside chemistry for multiple client-based projects.

Job requirements

Positions are available at the level of Senior Research Associate/Scientist/Senior Scientist/Team leader depending on qualifications and experience.

  • Candidates may come from academic or industrial backgrounds. Consideration will be given to candidates who hold (a) a relevant Master s degree with multiple years relevant experience, OR (b) a Ph.D. with or without subsequent postdoctoral experience in translational biology.
  • Candidates should have high-level expertise in medium/high-throughput screening and molecular cellular biology
  • An excellent track record of achievement is essential, reflected in peer-reviewed publications (for candidates from academic backgrounds) or in the documented delivery of scientific programs, milestones, or objectives (for candidates from industry).
  • Working knowledge of methods for small-molecule lead discovery is essential, but might not be essential (particularly for academic candidates).
  • Candidates must be capable of excellent teamwork in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment, where meeting timelines will be essential.
  • Strong experience working with small-molecule drug discovery from a CRO/Drug Discovery company/Translational Research with an ability to efficiently handle time-bound and service-based projects.

  • Experience working with board target classes -e.g., enzymes, GPCRs, transporters, ion channels, surface receptors, etc. across different therapeutic areas
  • Strong experience in medium and high-throughput screening using cell-free and cell-based assays
  • Experience with binding assays - particularly hands-on experience with Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) or Microscale Thermophoresis (MST) will be an advantage
  • Ability to plan and design experiments, order reagents, set up assay platforms and deliver them in a timely fashion
  • Experience in the generation of stable cell lines required for cell-based assay development and screening
  • Understanding of basic molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry experiments will be an advantage
  • Managerial experience of junior scientists
  • Excellent data analysis and interpretation skills
  • Ability to participate in project team meetings and contribute to the project(s) intellectually
