Job Summary

ACCOUNTABILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provide engineering support for component risk assessments on new designs. Research and recommend solutions for 2nd sourcing of components accounting for a variety of factors like technical merit, risk, cost, availability, and profit impact. Provide support to EDS engineering teams regarding technical advantages, availability, and cost of various component choices throughout the project design process. Collaborate with cross-functional teams on part selection, risk assessment, design reviews, and proactively drive risk mitigation. Work closely with EDS design engineers and strategic sourcing teams to select the full range of electronic components for new projects, including but not limited to, resistors, capacitors, inductors, integrated circuits, connectors, switches, timing devices, relays and enclosures. Provide technical support to sourcing team with alternative parts and end of life solutions. Support development of a proprietary FOS cross reference database of all identified and qualified components. Liaise with internal and external Hardware Design teams on component selection. Review design collateral, schematics, bills of material, project specs, PCB lay-outs and part geometries. BOM analysis using available FOS tools and third-party tools. BOM review for accuracy of part selections. Provide technical input and direction during supplier and customer meetings, if required. Research, review, obtain technical documentation and catalog information for new parts. Be the resident component expert in a wide range of electronic components. Participate in concept reviews, design reviews, and design FMEAs (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis). Monitor, identify and resolve lifecycle issues and assist EDS engineering and sourcing teams to identify appropriate resources and substitutes for components. SKILLS & CERTIFICATIONS Thorough understanding of engineering theory and design criteria. Solid experience and understanding on component engineering Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong supervisory and leadership skills. Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Excellent Written and Verbal Communication Skills Outstanding Team Skills: demonstrated ability to build and make a strong contribution on a High Performing Team Can be both a player and a coach simultaneously REQUIREMENTS Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology required Ability to read and interpret datasheets for electronic components is required 5 years of related Component Engineering industry experience preferred System level PCB design experience through work experience preferred Ability to read design schematics and lay-outs highly preferred Understanding of Printed Circuit Board properties and manufacturing process preferred Experience with Schematic/Layout tools: Cadence - HDL Concept, Capture CIS & Allegro , Altium preferred Ability to create schematic symbols and land patterns in Schematic/Layout tools preferred Experience with BOM management systems preferred Experience with Bug Tracking system like JIRA preferred Familiarity with component selection tools like IHS/Silicon Expert and Altium Knowledge of Electronic Component Management standards. Strong English oral and written communication skills Ability to deal with varied multiple project assignments simultaneously Hands on person capable of understanding the function and performance of electronic components of all types and able to apply sound engineering practices to find appropriate solutions to issues Experienced with the use of the Microsoft Office suite of applications (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
