Job Summary

Role Overview: Senior Leadership Water Sector

Arcadis is seeking a senior leader within the Water team to drive the technical excellence and efficient delivery of projects. This role involves developing and maintaining strong relationships with both internal teams and clients, ensuring high-quality delivery of water-related projects, and contributing to the overall growth and positioning of Arcadis in the market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Relationship Management: Provide senior leadership within the Water team, fostering relationships across Arcadis and with clients. Take responsibility for the technical capability and quality assurance in water projects, ensuring their successful delivery.

  • Technical Excellence: Lead the development of Arcadis' water sector capabilities, ensuring the company maintains its reputation as an innovative and reliable technical consultancy.

  • Major Project Oversight: Act as a Project Director when necessary to oversee the delivery of large-scale, complex water projects. Lead the management of risk by conducting independent technical reviews and addressing key findings.

  • SHE (Safety, Health, Environment) Leadership: Promote continuous improvement in safety performance across all business operations, ensuring the integration of "safe by design" initiatives and achieving specific safety targets.

  • Team Development: Evaluate the technical competence of senior staff, support their development through targeted training and mentoring, and help them reach their full potential.

  • Collaboration & Communication: Ensure effective communication and collaboration between Arcadis teams and external partners to resolve technical challenges and maintain project momentum.

  • Market Engagement: Stay updated on developments within the water sector, including technical, regulatory, and legislative changes. Contribute to Arcadis' professional profile by participating in conferences, writing thought leadership articles, and engaging in technical committees.

  • Innovation Sponsorship: Champion innovative solutions that address complex client needs and enhance Arcadis leadership in the water sector.

  • Bid Leadership: Contribute to bid processes by providing leadership in complex technical aspects of proposals, ensuring the production of high-quality, winning submissions.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Problem-Solving Expertise: Ability to lead the resolution of complex technical challenges, particularly in high-pressure situations.

  • Team Leadership: Proven experience in establishing and managing high-performing teams capable of delivering complex multidisciplinary projects in both design-build and client-side contexts.

  • Technical Leadership: A commitment to technical excellence, with a focus on continuous improvement in safety, health, and welfare practices.

  • Client Relationship Management: Skilled in building and maintaining relationships with senior leaders and stakeholders, both internally and externally.

  • Cultural Sensitivity: Experience leading diverse, international teams and understanding the cultural nuances that drive successful collaboration.

  • Commercial Acumen: Strong understanding of commercial management principles, including risk management and financial oversight in project delivery.

  • Sustainability & Design: Knowledge of sustainable design principles and their application in the water sector.

Desired Qualifications

  • A relevant academic background, holding a BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng.
  • At least 20 years of experience in a relevant field, with a minimum of 10 years in managing water sector projects in the UK.
  • Chartered status (or Fellowship) with a relevant professional institution.
